Paws the VAT

A petition has been launched by Dogs Trust calling on the government to pause the value-added tax (VAT) on pet food and veterinary services for 12 months to support dog owners during the current cost-of-living crisis.

The group has received over 50,000 enquiries from owners needing to give up their pets due to financial pressures.

A recent YouGov poll found that 31% of dog owners were concerned about the cost of caring for their pets in the coming year, with 54% saying that managing veterinary costs would ease their concerns.

The petition urges the government to take action to help struggling dog owners and prevent an animal welfare crisis. Interested parties can sign the petition to support the cause.
