A free dementia event featuring singing, solidarity and advice will showcase the support available to older people and their carers in Wetherby.
Wetherby in Support of the Elderly (WiSE), in partnership with Wetherby Local Care Partnership, is hosting the free event to raise awareness of dementia and the support available to those living with the condition and their loved ones.

Organisers say they want the event to give fresh hope to the countless people in Wetherby and surrounding villages who live with the devasting effects of dementia on a daily basis.WiSE Chief Operating Officer Mark Dobson, said: “Creating a dementia‑friendly community starts with awareness, compassion and connection. Our Memory Café and Forget Me Not services show just how much difference the right support can make - and this event is a chance for people to discover what’s available locally.
"The event is open to everyone - whether you are living with dementia, caring for someone who is, or simply want to know more. No ticket is needed and a free light lunch will be provided."
Mark (pictured) will open and close the event and speak about the organisation’s work, including its Memory Café and Forget Me Not initiatives. The programme also includes a talk from a local GP on dementia, a presentation from a Memory Support Worker and a personal account from someone with lived experience of the condition.
Afternoon sessions will cover the Herbert Protocol - a national scheme helping police locate vulnerable missing people - presented by PCSO Louise Crossland, as well as legal services relating to dementia care from HTF Legal.
The event will close with a Q&A panel featuring a GP, a Memory Support Worker, a WiSE representative, a Carers Team member and a legal representative.
Throughout the day, a range of local organisations and stallholders will be on hand to share information on services and support. Entertainment will be provided by local singer Katy James.
The Dementia Awareness & Support Event takes place on Thursday 11 June 2026, 10am–2pm at Wetherby Town Hall, Market Place, Wetherby, LS22 6NE. For more information, contact lcht.lcpdevelopment@nhs.net
