Mayor visits for little Bird Markets

Little Bird Made is an outdoor artisan market company who deliver events across the Yorkshire area. They hold an array of markets in many of the area’s towns on a monthly basis and additional ad hoc and seasonal events in other communities.

Little Bird work in partnership with many local Councils and organisations to deliver their markets. This weekend they were delighted for the Mayor of Harrogate and Mayor of Knaresborough to visit the market in their home towns.

On Saturday The Mayor of Knaresborough, Councillor Kathryn Davies visited the market in Knaresborough in their new location at the Castle. The market moved to the Castle grounds last month as they had out grown their previous location in the Market Place. The new location will enable the market to grow and provide additional opportunities for traders. Kathryn said, “It is good to see the artisan market in the Castle grounds, returning this historic site to the bustling place it must have been nearly a thousand years ago. The variety of the market traders here complement our traditional Wednesday in the Market Square and provides added interest and colour at the weekends for residents and visitors alike”.

On Sunday traders and staff were visited in Valley Gardens, by The Mayor of the Borough of Harrogate, Councillor Victoria Oldham, who said, “Unlike on the continent we do not always appreciate locally sourced food and creative crafts. Having the Little Bird Artisan Market in Harrogate is welcomed, and we should support those who bring their wares. With the variety offered it is a bonus.”

This was a great opportunity to showcase the amazing talent that Yorkshire has within its local towns and villages and to discuss the difficulties that many small businesses are facing at the moment with the cost-of-living increases. For some businesses the current price increases will be a major factor in their survival over the coming months. Little Bird are fully supportive of all small businesses with their ethos of shop small, shop local clearly evident. They keep the costs as low as possible at markets so even the smallest business starting out can trade at their events, they advertise events as widely as possible to ensure a good footfall at all events and support traders to grow and develop as their aim is that one day the Little Bird traders will get their wings are fly onto bigger opportunities. They also support the towns they trade in, through encouraging visitors to not only visit the market, but also visit the local shops, cafes, restaurants, and tourist attractions. Little Bird aim to bring shoppers back into town centres and support local businesses and services.
