Award-winning trumpet player set to shine in Harrogate

Matilda Lloyd, recently shortlisted for Young Artist of the year at the Royal Philharmonic Society Awards 2026, returns to Harrogate next month.

Lloyd, described by BBC Music Magazine as a “trumpeter extraordinaire,” will take to the stage at the Old Swan Hotel on February 8, for the second concert in the Harrogate International Sunday Series, when she will be joined by the acclaimed Goldmund Quartet.

The acclaimed trumpet player was last in the spa town in 2022 when she performed at the Royal Hall and is looking forward to being part of the popular Sunday morning coffee concerts. “I really love the town, and it will be lovely to come back and play in a completely new venue,” she said.

Lloyd, who won the 2014 BBC Young Musician of the Year Brass competition, is now an ECHO Rising Star playing in Europe’s leading venues and Professor of Trumpet at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London.

She will be joined in Harrogate by the Goldmund Quartet, renowned worldwide for their classical and contemporary chamber music repertoire, when the trumpet will take centre stage, guiding the audience on a journey through the brilliance of Bach, the elegance of Haydn and the dynamism of Gershwin.

As well as these famous names, the concert will also celebrate works by two lesser-known female composers Pauline Viardot and Marianna Martines.

Sharon Canavar, Harrogate International Festivals Chief Executive, said: “Matilda Lloyd is an incredible trumpet player, and we are delighted to welcome her back to Harrogate.

“The Sunday Series has a rich tradition of showcasing some of the world’s most gifted classical musicians and both Matilda and the Goldmund Quartet certainly fit into this category.”

All of the Sunday Series concerts take place at the historic Old Swan Hotel, which provides an intimate setting to enjoy a morning coffee and exceptional music with friends.
